I am packing a suitcase, organizing my makeup kit and charging my phone. I have a 7:00 AM call time to shoot a commercial with Adam Taylor at the Hot Spring Spa and Resort! I am off for a two day shoot. With Serenity in California for the week, March and April’s Fashion spreads and the BeautyTrend shoots in the can, I am looking forward to two days of roughin’ it at the Spa! The only bad thing is we’ll be shooting outside…on the water…in the snow. This is my first gig with Adam and his team, so I’m a bit anxious, but it should be a blast…
Ben Nye is in the house!
So I was cleaning my computer on my day off and came across an old photo of Trecy in a moustache…yes, the chest hair is FAKE too! It made me smile. So in addition to hoping it makes you smile too, I thought it might be a good way to remind all you theatrical types that we carry Ben Nye and a few other items just for you. As a matter of fact, we just got a new shipment in, so we’re pretty well-stocked. So don’t wait until the last minute to restock your kit! This is also a shout out to Trecy. We’re so glad you’re back in town! If you need new head shots pop onto Stewart Young’s new website. He shot this one of Trecy.
Behind the Scenes with Danielle T
I work with one of THE best hair stylists in Asheville, possibly the world! She is revamping the West One Salon website/blog. This post is my way of showing her the ropes…blogwise, I mean. So, you’ll see a photo or two, with a link to somewhere, cause the girl’s gotta learn these things. Thanks for following me, even when I am really going nowhere…the image below is one of our last photoshoots together. It is the Valentine’s Day fashion feature for Sophie Magazine. Jackie is supposed to be the star of this show, but really…look at us!
If you are online and reading this as it posts, keep checking in. This post may come and go. It may remain or it may morph into something entirely different as we go through our tutorial. It’s always an adventure when we’re on board with us!
Sophie Magazine’s Valentine’s Day Issue
We had a blast shooting the fashion spread for Sophie‘s Valentine’s Day issue. Dan Wickham‘s images of beautiful models in clothing from Hip Replacements showing off their Valentine’s cards looks amazing. (facebook was buzzing the minute the issue was out!) Thank you to Danielle Travers of West One Salon and Heather Smith of Adorn Salon for their contributions. And thank you, JeanAnn, for throwing the Pin-Up element into the mix! February promises to be a busy month for us, so keep an eye out for more images of what we’re up to.
It’s not my fault!
HomeTrust Banking Partnership Print Campaign
It can never be said that we don’t love our jobs or bring a little fun to the set! We had a ball working with Keith Wright and Phillip of Wright Creative, Inc. for the HomeTrust Banking Partnership. We did makeup for a team of execs with the bank for an ad campaign that will eventually end up on billboards all over the region. Thanks, Keith, for including me and Serenity in the mix!
Carolina Home & Garden Winter 2011
What luck. I was asked to do makeup for an article in Carolina Home & Garden Magazine. You’ll never guess who’s home I was invited into…this was shot just after Rose had returned home from LA, shooting Jane by Design. (I have to admit, I’ve been watching the show, and it’s now another television guilty pleasure). Again, who’d have thought Asheville, North Caroline would offer so much opportunity for a makeup artist?
Biltmore commercials
Today and tomorrow I am working at the Biltmore Estate. This job will result in two commercials. One for the Atlanta market and the other for cities around Asheville. They should begin to air within the next two weeks. I always have fun working on the Estate. Even more exciting, we are shooting inside the house. This is unusually rare. The last commercial I worked on started after the house closed and wrapped around 3:00 a.m. Today I worked with three beautiful “couples”…actually two out of the three actually were married to each other. Tomorrow it’s family time. Should be fun!
Sophie’s January Issue
We rang in the New Year with two magazine covers, our monthly Beauty Trends and another beautiful fashion spread for Sophie. The fashion spread was the brain child of photographer Audrey Goforth. (Thank you, Audrey, for including us in your vision of Downtown Asheville fashion).
I’d like to take this post to thank all of our customers and friends for a successful 2011. We celebrated our second anniversary in December. We had such a great year. We grew so much that we moved to a larger, brighter, more lively space just up the hall from our original little shop. Sometimes I wonder if all of the Buy Local signs are still getting the attention they did when the movement first started. Every time you walk into our shop I know it is still having an enormous impact. We truly appreciate all of your loyalty and support. I am so proud of what we’ve achieved in such a short time…in our little community. Thank you, Asheville!
New Year, New Magazine Covers!
This cover signifies new beginnings. It’s especially bittersweet because it is the last thing our Mendy did before setting her sites on Austin, Texas. Even before this issue of Verve hit the news stands, Mendy was on her way to a new life in Austin. We will miss her, and know that she will take Austin, no TEXAS, by storm! We love you, Mendy.
